Questions about the service
How long will it take to solve a problem?
How long is a piece of string? Human beings are complex. Some issues may be resolved quickly, others, particularly if there is a long-standing problem will take much longer. If it took ten years to develop an unsatisfactory way of behaving, it will not be resolved overnight. And other issues like bereavement require time for healing - support may speed things up a little and will minimise the damage.
How 'private' can the information be?
Anything arising from the questions you ask and the answers given will be accessible only to you and the psychologist working with you.
Can I ask just one question?
Joining the site gives you access to much more than the psychologist. The papers offer advice on all manner of subjects and will enable you to improve your parenting generally. The format offers ten questions; children are complex and frequently the initial question and concern mutates into a number of other issues.
How do I know that you are genuinely qualified and good at your job?
You can always check credentials with the British Psychological Society, and you can follow the "Featured on" links on the right to see what I have previously been involved in.
Can you solve every problem to do with children?
No. As we said at the front, we can't help with anything that requires intensive therapy like eating disorders or depression - although we can advise you how to access the right sort of support. Neither can we change children with autism or significant learning difficulties although we can help you to understand the condition better and cope constructively. But we can help in very many situations.
Some conditions remit easily, others will take time
Can I phone you?
No. We felt that it would be simpler to deal with everyone through the Internet. That way we can ensure a considered and swift response for our clients. Using the Internet maximises our efficiency to you.
Why do you always refer to the child as 'he'?
It became too clumsy to keep writing s/he, particularly since it then meant remembering to use hers and his. In the end, particularly since boys tend to pose more difficulties than girls, it seemed easier to be consistent with the use of 'he'.
